TELECOMMUNICATION giant LIME, in its third and final year of a three-year deal with the St Catherine FA, will introduce a fun-filled Friday Night Football concept aimed at improving the entertainment package.

This is a departure from the usual Thursday format they had before and LIME events manager Nathaniel Palmer said they are pleased to be on board for the third year as they push the sport forward.

"Football as a sport is to be credited for its role in the community development and the discipline it instills within players. LIME is proud to be able to play our part in the development of the sport and the St Catherine communities at large," said Palmer.

St Catherine FA president Peter Reid thanked LIME for their involvement and initiatives and hoped the relationship will continue for years to come.

"We can't stop speaking about LIME and what they have done for St Catherine. This is the last year of the three-year contract; hopefully, we will have more time with LIME because we figure that we've done well," Reid told the Jamaica Observer.

The LIME-sponsored Division One and Major Leagues will kick off today following an opening ceremony at the Spanish Town Prison Oval.

Windsor Lion will tackle Albion FC in the opening Division I match at 4:30 pm before DB Basovak take on Rodwood FC in the Major League at 7:30.

Meanwhile, all clubs in the St Catherine leagues will get a chance to play at the Prison Oval where they will benefit from better gate receipts, Reid noted.

Also, the format of the league will be changed, with the 12 teams being placed in two groups of six and play each other on a home-and-away basis, plus one cross-zone match.
