Soldier accused of stealing BlackBerry to go on trial March 29

A Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) Corporal who reportedly stole a BlackBerry cellular phone is to go on trial in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on March 29.

The trial date was scheduled on Tuesday when the accused, Andrew Street, appeared before Senior Magistrate Judith Pusey where he maintained his innocence on a charge of larceny of a cellular phone.

Allegations are that Street went to the RBC (Royal Bank of Canada)) Bank located at JDF headquarters at Up Park Camp in Kingston last year and removed the cellular phone from the premises.

Street reportedly took the phone to his home, flashed the phone and inserted his SIM card and began using the phone.

It is further reported that about a week later police officers, acting on information, stopped Street and searched the service vehicle he was driving and found the cellular phone.

He was subsequently arrested and charged but was later released on station bail.

Street is being represented by attorney Hannah Harris- Barrington.
