Local government debates on
BY CANDIESE LEVERIDGE Online reporter leveridgec@jamaicaobserver.comTHE Government and the Opposition have signed an agreement to hold local government debates. The signing took place at the Courtleigh Hotel in New Kingston this afternoon.
The Jamaica Debates Commission will hold the 90-minute debate on Thursday at 9:00 pm at a cost of $6 million.
The People's National Party's (PNP) debating team will make the first of the opening statements and the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) will make the last of the closing statements.
JLP parliamentarian Olivia 'Babsy' Grange was pleased with the arrangement.
"It couldn't have happened a better way, that's how we wanted it" she said.
The members of the PNP team are Noel Arscott, Brenda Ramsay and Angela Brown-Burke.
The JLP debaters are Robert Montague, Desmond McKenzie and Milton Brown.
Archibald Gordon will be the moderator, while the panel of questioners are Natalie Campbell of Irie FM, Dwayne Berbick, CVM, and Rhoma Tomlinson of the Jamaica Observer.
