Q

Dear Doc:

The problem that I have is this: I'm addicted to orchids. And it's getting worse; it is like a disease. The good thing, though, is that I seem to forget all my problems when I am with my orchids... Oh, it is like heaven!

Dear Debbs:

You have no problem at all, and if push comes to shove, you could always sell the orchids. Enjoy your babies.

Q

Dear Doc:

From time to time I have seen something white on my orchids and within no time at all they rot and die. What can I do to stop this? Orchids are not exactly cheap.

T Curtis

Dear T Curtis:

What you have described is a fungus, which is often caused by too much water. Whenever you see this happening, please use some cotton with half-strength peroxide to wipe the area and the medium (stones) if necessary, and then use some powdered fungicide to dress the area. Try to remove orchids from the elements. Do not water for about a week, then put them outdoors again. Please examine your orchids at the neck (between first leaf and roots) at least once per week.
