High spirits at New Moon RisingSimone Morgan
HUNDREDS of revellers turned out to party at the final staging of the 2012 Bacchanal Fridays held at the New Mas Camp, Stadium North, in St Andrew on Friday. The event was dubbed 'New Moon Rising'.
Unlike previous stagings, there were no live performances. However, this did not slow down the patrons as they to music provided by DJ Billy and Coppershot's DJ Sanjay.
Over the past six weeks, revellers enjoyed memorable performances from Kes the Band, Byron Lee's Dragonaires, Bunji Garlin and Fayon Lyons, and Shurwayne Winchester. The sponsors treated patrons to numerous giveaways and specials each week. ATL Automotive also showcased their newest offerings at the weekly event.
The 'Future Shock' series continues with Smirnoff Beach J'ouvert on Saturday at James Bond Beach in St Mary. In addition to the 'paint war', the soca fete will also feature a live performance from Trinidad and Tobago's Machel Montano. Patrice Roberts, a member of Montano's band — Machel Montano HD — is also expected to grace the stage. Roberts is best known for songs such as The Island, Sugar Boy and Slow Wine.
Bacchanal J'ouvert will 'hit the streets' of the Corporate Area on Friday, April 13 and will feature soca artiste Destra Garcia. The series will climax with the road march on Sunday, April 15.
