M-Class: a show stopper

IT was an evening of elegance at the South Camp Road office of Silver Star Motors on Wednesday evening.

Red carpet, fine wines, and of the course, the 2012 ML-250.

Former Governor General Sir Kenneth Hall and Lady Hall, Cuban Ambassador Yuri Lopez, Spanish Ambassador Celsa Nuno, Josef Beck, German Ambassador as well as South African diplomats were among the special guests at the event.

“Tonight we’re gathered at this red carpet event to witness the premiere of the new 2012 M-Class. We are pleased to offer this premium SUV which has been redefined to offer a higher level of comfort, dynamic on-road handling and outstanding off-road capabilities,” said Jacqueline Sangster, general manager of Silver Star Motors Limited.

The new, third generation M-Class boasts a number of features including parking guidance; hill descent (DSR) downhill speed regulation; permanent all-wheel drive; and, media interface (Ipod, USB).

Unlike its predecessors, consumes 25 per cent less fuel.

“With the high cost of fuel, that’s something you can’t ignore,” Sangster told Auto.

The SUV impresses with the smallest turning circle in its market segment.

“This makes the driving experience more pleasant” she said.

With a starting price of $9.15 million ($8.45 million — 20% concession) the M-Class is powered by 2.1L 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine is pulled by 204 ‘horses’ and 369 lb-ft of torque.

Additional options including Active Curve System dynamic roll stabilisation, Attention Assist drowsiness detection, Intelligent Light System, Night View Assist Plus with automatic person recognition, Speed Limit Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Assist, Distronic Plus adaptive cruise control, Harman Kardon Logic 7 audio, system, Active Park Assist, reverse camera and autonomous braking.

“The M-Class is a show stopper,” Sangster added.
