Sweet Belle - A Dessert Boutique
Thursday, December 15, 2011
Consider Sweet Belle, like us at Thursday Food, as an early Christmas present, one you always wanted but never quite knew how to ask for. Envisage design pro Philippa Epstein as Santa armed with tables and chairs from Italian company Arter & Critton, bounce chairs and mushroom tables by Brazilian company Zuo - along with elves in the form of young designers Raul Pineros of Innovations, Miami and Ruth Noguera from Seiden, Miami - who have created design magic in a cosy 600-ft space.
"I wanted," shared Epstein, "a young contemporary feel for Sweet Belle hence my use of clean lines and plexi." This she achieves by brilliantly weaving Caribbean warmth with clean modern lines. Make no mistake, though, the food is the star of Sweet Belle, named for Epstein's grand-aunt Belle, whom she fondly recalls as being "an excellent cook... who was always whipping up delightful 'sweet things'. Many of the recipes at Sweet Belle are versions of things she would bake". There is, too, Epstein's business partner and friend Christine Morin whose passion for "making everything taste delicious" is something Epstein has always admired. Morin is a Canadian-trained Wilton instructor who, according to her partner, "really knows food".
Sweet Belle is, say its owners, a place where mothers and daughters can hang out or a place where a bunch of girlfriends can go to grab lunch or even an afternoon sweet treat and a glass of wine. As much as we'd like to differ with Epstein and claim Sweet Belle for ladies only, men are welcome to enjoy the healthy options. While sweet treats dominate - think fudge, cake pops, whoppie pies, pavlovas, old-fashioned jumbo malts - there are also salads like Gorgonzola and pear, Greek Sweet Belle chicken salad, gourmet sandwiches and soups, margarita (plum tomatoes, fresh mozzarella and garlic-infused olive oil topped with fresh basil pizza).
We could go on ad infinitum about this dessert boutique but we reckon you'd rather experience each decadent mouthful yourself.
