Goshen canned ackee
Shelf Talk
Thursday, January 12, 2012
This week we're featuring the Goshen canned ackee. This beloved food — an integral component of our National Dish, is precooked and only requires you to season to your liking before it's ready to be consumed. Speaking to Thursday Food, Goshen Manufacturing Sales and Marketing Manager Tracey Simpson shares: "The Goshen canned ackee is known locally and overseas. It is recommended, and stands out for its quality, taste and cost. It has proven to be a local favourite and is being demanded by, and exported to overseas markets such as Canada." Simpson added, "Just season the ackee to your liking, add your salt fish if you so choose and enjoy."
Distributed by Goshen Manufacturing and Distributors Limited — a food and beverage company located on Norman Road — the canned ackee retails for $445. The Goshen brand, established in 2007, also distributes authentic Jamaican foods such as: extra virgin cold pressed coconut oil, gourmet jams, jerk seasoning, sauces, honey, molasses, canned products such as callaloo and red peas soup, as well as the "Rewine" roots tonic wine. The canned ackee may be purchased at Loshusan, Barbican Centre; Sovereign Supermarket; MegaMart outlets; Shopper's Fair, Duhaney Park; Brooklyn Supermarkets, General Foods, Liguanea; and Hi-Lo, Spanish Town.
