G's Please!

Drawing the shutters on Rib Kage earlier this year, the eatery’s owners Gariel Ferguson and his wife Gillian secured restaurant space at the Marketplace soon after. The couple’s thinking was to venture onto new turf and start a specialty gourmet pizzeria at the newly acquired location. To the delight of barbecue-loving foodies, Gariel, whose incomparable knack for roasted pork leaves our taste buds salivating, still had a yearning for the grill and decided it best to remain in the barbecue business.
The Fergusons’ latest undertaking — G’s BBQ — up and running now for a little over two weeks, has attracted favourable word of mouth and the eatery’s seats are gradually being filled. “We have been well-received,” Gillian shared. “In fact, last weekend was crazy-busy, we actually had people waiting to be seated.” The airy, relaxed environs aside (there’s al fresco and indoor seating), drumming up the most customer interest is G’s menu that draws inspiration from the American South. Hence the presence of crispy chicken wings, wood-smoked chicken or baby-back ribs dinner, grilled jumbo shrimp and cedar plank grilled salmon fillet.
As Gariel is wont to whip up his own unique brand of cocktails, the eatery features such specialty mixes as The Orange Moon, G’s Mad Mojito, 3G and Thai Me, the latter a refreshing mélange of lime zest, lemongrass syrup, ginger ale and gin. To satisfy diners with a sweet tooth, the dessert menu is an evolving calorie-rich haven. Gillian, who bears the responsibility for baking the dessert goodies, noted that although crispy rum and raisin bread pudding and banana crème brulée were available at the time of our visit, there is no definitive fix on dessert.
We’re also informed that given the close proximity to Fiction Lounge, plans are underway to open G’s BBQ in the early morning hours to coincide with the club’s closing hours for the yuletide season. “That would be closer to Christmas when partygoers are leaving Fiction…we would do specialty items like burgers and pulled pork sandwiches,” Gillian revealed.
G’s BBQ is located at Units 16 to 19 at The Marketplace, 67 Constant Spring Road, Kingston 10. The restaurant is open Mondays to Saturdays from 5:00 pm to 10:30 pm. Telephone: 787-6882 or 819-9550. You can also ‘like’ the eatery on Facebook at G’s BBQ.
