Smoothieee Magic
Thursday, February 09, 2012
For the calorie-counting crowd craving healthy sips and bites, Mr Smoothieee is the latest must-do foodie destination. The art-deco-like eatery, located in Southdale Plaza, has a menu that naturally features smoothies but boasts frozen yogurts, wraps, sandwiches, and salads among its offerings. Opening its doors in September of last year, according to Operations Manager Audrey Lawrence, Mr Smoothieee has quickly built a loyal clientele which she classifies as "business type".
"We have a healthy emphasis in terms of our wraps and beverages," Lawrence told Thursday Food when we popped in for a visit earlier this week. The drinks menu features an Irish Moss corner with such items as 'Ital Jockey' (a mixture that includes bananas, Irish moss, cashew, soy milk, soy protein, ginseng, and bee pollen), 'Performance Builder' (made with Guinness, Irish moss, soy milk, oats, and peanut) and 'Usain Punch' (a concoction made of Baji, Tiger Bone, Guinness, ginseng, cashew, oats, and Irish moss). There are, too, therapy juices with tell-tale names such as 'prostate warrior', 'healthy heart', 'pressure reliever', and 'diabetic delight'.
Mr Smoothieee has a distinctive self-serve frozen yogurt bar with strawberry banana, vanilla, piña colada, pistachio, and kiwi pineapple flavours on tap at the dispensers. Customers can then add a variety of toppings, ranging from Gummy Bears and M&Ms to coconut
shavings and caramel cereal to their yogurt selections -- weigh their cups and purchase.
Sandwich choices at the eatery, Lawrence explained, include ham and cheese, chicken and bacon, honey turkey and chicken breast and avocado. The sandwiches, as well as the wraps, are offered with customers having final choice of a range of toppings to complete their orders.
The operations manager indicated to Thursday Food that they now offer daily lunch specials. Mr Smoothieee recently launched their event catering business, and offers their services for theme and children's parties, she added.
