Saturday Hustle - February 4
Saturday, February 04, 2012
With the 54th Grammy Awards only a week away, the Saturday Hustle team is eager to see who will take home the Album of the Year award.
21 - Adele
Adele has had a tremendous year and has certainly outdone her competitors. Her sophomore album 21 defied commercial expectations, topping the chart in over 26 countries. It spent 20 weeks atop the UK Albums Chart — the longest by a solo artiste. 21 set all-time records in various countries, and its three singles — Rolling in the Deep, Someone Like You, and Set Fire to the Rain — became worldwide number-one hits, propelling global album sales to 17 million as of January 2012.
Born This Way - Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga's second studio album Born This Way had the highest firstweek album sales of the year: 1.1 million. The album's singles Born This Way, Judas, Edge Of Glory and You and I were all top 10 hits on the Billboard charts, while Born This Way became the fastest-selling single in iTunes history.
Loud - Rihanna
Rihanna's fifth studio album Loud received generally positive reviews from music critics, who complimented its upbeat material and her vocal performances. The album produced seven singles, including the international hits Only Girl (In the World), What's My Name?, and S&M. All three singles reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100. S&M was Rihanna's tenth US number-one song, making her the youngest recording artiste to accumulate 10 number-one songs in the shortest time.
Wasting Light - Foo Fighters
Wasting Light is the rock band's seventh studio album. The album debuted at number one in 12 countries and was the first Foo Fighters album to top the US Billboard 200 chart, with first-week sales of 235,000 copies. On the week of its release, six tracks from the album made the UK Top 40 Rock Chart.
Doo-Wops & Hooligans - Bruno Mars
The debut album of singer-songwriter Bruno Mars charted at number three on the Billboard 200. Upon its release the album received generally mixed to positive reviews from music critics. Its singles Grenade, Just The Way You Are and The Lazy Song were all top 10 hits. Doo-Wops & Hooligans was announced as the third biggest-selling album of 2011 in the UK, selling approximately 1,214,420 copies.
