Prince Harry's big Caribbean jaunt revealed
People Post
Friday, February 03, 2012
Prince Harry hopes to line up in the starting blocks next to sprinter Usain Bolt during his Diamond Jubilee tour of the Caribbean and Central America next month. The prince plans to meet the world's fastest man at his training base when he visits the Jamaican capital of Kingston. It is expected that Bolt, who defends his Olympic 100-metre title at London 2012 this summer, will give Harry a few pointers about starting a sprint but — luckily for the royal — not actually race him. "We're hoping he (Bolt) will teach him (Harry) how to start," said his private secretary Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton. "I don't think they will hare-off round the track together, thankfully." The second-in-line to the throne is said to be 'bouncing' in anticipation of his first solo overseas tour on behalf of the Queen, to mark the monarch's 60-year reign.
While in Jamaica he will meet the country's new prime minister, Portia Simpson Miller, who last month vowed to abandon the Queen as head of state and adopt a republican form of government. Lowther-Pinkerton said the issue of whether the nation remains one of the monarch's realms or follows a different path is something for the country's people and government, but stressed that the prince would be taking the "good wishes of the Queen of Jamaica to the Jamaican people". After Jamaica he travels onto Brazil where he will be the guest of honour at an event hosted by the British government to launch trade and tourism initiatives on the back of both the Jubilee and London Olympics, on top of the world-famous Sugarloaf Mountain.

A-list red carpet look by numbers
When Charlize Theron was nominated for an award at this year's Golden Globes, the film she was promoting, Young Adult, received far less attention than her red carpet look. The blush silk Christian Dior couture gown, Cartier jewellery and flawless hair and make-up won her praise from style pundits across the board. But behind the scenes, huge sums of money are being spent to ensure the star looks just right. Nymag.com estimates that if one were to recreate the look, it would cost in excess of US$8 million. Of course, Theron, 36, does not pay for any of this. It is in the interests of her film's production company, and Christian Dior, for which she fronts a fragrance, to harness their association with her to generate the maximum possible publicity.
It is for this reason that she was loaned the ravishing gown, worth US$30,000, and a bead-embellished clutch bag worth US$20,000 to go with it. The bag wasn't the only sparkle — Theron was dripping in a staggering US$8,026,525 worth of Cartier diamonds. Among the items she was loaned for the evening were a vintage bandeau headpiece and vintage brooch, as well as diamond earrings and a platinum and diamond ring. Her shoes, a US$1,150 Givenchy pair, are believed to have been a gift to her from the label. As it has its own cosmetics line, Christian Dior also took care of Ms Theron's make-up, providing the services of its global make-up advisor Shane Paish. His time alone would have been worth $1,500, the Dior products used were valued by Nymag.com at a further US$251. Her hair, so artfully swept beneath that dazzling bandeau, was done by stylist Enzo Angileri. His services would have cost US$400, and he is estimated to have used US$79 worth of products. It is most likely that Paramount Pictures paid for this.

Ditching the tomboy chic?
She is often seen sporting little make-up and a casual style. But for a Vanity Fair photoshoot it appears that Kristen Stewart has ditched her tomboy chic in favour of show-stopping glamour. The Twilight star, 21, was seen sporting a full face of dramatic make-up as she made her way to meet with legendary photographer Mario Testino for Vanity Fair. While she might not have been in her couture gowns for the high-fashion shoot, her smokey eyes and coiffured hair were just a taste of the spectacle to come. As she left the photo shoot Kristen found herself surrounded by fans. While the star usually shies away from fuss, she was happy to pose for pictures and sign autographs. The actress was seen in a hooded top and skulked between action shots with a cigarette in hand and dark circles under her eyes.
