Candy cane!

People Post

Friday, February 17, 2012

Colourful songbird Nicki Minaj is the latest celebrity — together with Latin superstar Ricky Martin — to lend her name to MAC's ultra altruistic Viva Glam range. All profits from make-up sold go to HIV/AIDS charities so it's a tremendous cause and quite an honour for the 27-year-old, who is famed for her love of rainbow hues. She launched her lipstick, which is a virulent pink, of course, at a candy-coloured party held at New York's Stage 37. Joined by Martin, all eyes were understandably on Minaj, who was wearing her shade, which tied in with a pink, blue and purple dress with matching jacket. Given the frenzied palette on her outfit, Minaj opted to keep her hair a Bardot style blonde. But she didn't hold back on the accessories one bit, and stacked up bracelets and rings — all in candy-coloured shades to tie in with the theme. "When I was chosen by MAC cosmetics to be the next Viva Glam spokesperson, I wanted to hug everyone that worked at MAC for giving me this opportunity," Minaj said. "I've always wanted to be a Viva Glam girl." Martin opined: "I am very honoured to be chosen as the first Latin man to be a spokesperson for this beautiful cause. We want to talk about things that really matter, and obviously HIV/AIDS is one of those — and in my case, HIV/AIDS and the cure for kids with HIV." Nicki and Ricky's photo shoot was with famed photographer David LaChapelle. The Moment 4 Life singer is making the press rounds in Manhattan to promote her new make-up collaboration with MAC and Ricky Martin.

Pictured for the first time

Rumours of a blossoming romance have been swirling for several weeks. And Zac Efron and Lily Collins added fuel to the fire on Monday night when they were clearly pictured together for the first time. Efron followed the 22-year-old daughter of British rocker Phil Collins into a waiting car after an evening together in Soho House, West Hollywood. Efron looked casual in a denim jacket and jeans, while Lily sported a white jacket over black trousers and high-heeled boots. Last weekend, the pair was said to have attended a friend's birthday party at STK restaurant. "They were definitely together," a witness told Us Weekly. Another source told People: "They even walked in holding hands. They had a drink at the bar together and then joined the birthday crew on the patio." Lily is previously said to have dated Twilight star Taylor Lautner after meeting him on the set of their film Abduction. And Efron famously dated his High School Musical co-star Vanessa Hudgens for four years until 2010. Lily, the English-born daughter of Phil from his second wife Jill Tavelman, will soon be seen as Snow White in the comedy movie Mirror Mirror. Efron, meanwhile, will next appear in the Nicholas Sparks' romantic war film, The Lucky One, and lend his voice to animated movie The Lorax.

Now that's a fall collection!

It is inevitable at Fashion Week, where models strut atop towering stilettos, that there will be a few tumbles on the catwalks. But at the Dennis Basso show, one unlucky clotheshorse took a trip seemingly on account of the length of the skirt she was wearing. The pretty blonde came crashing down when the hem of the billowing floor-length skirt became caught under her feet. Nevertheless, she gathered herself up again and continued walking with barely a trace of embarrassment, or sense of humour for that matter, visible on her face. Known for his furs and ready-to-wear lines, Dennis Basso showed his Fall 2012 collection yesterday, which featured the bright orange skirt and sparkling top that caused the fall. Famous faces to have witnessed the humiliation included Star Jones, Joan Rivers, Ivanka Trump, and Susan Lucci. Speaking prior to the accident, a source once admitted that falling on the catwalk can be career threatening. "It's quite common for girls to be quietly dropped by their agents after tripping or falling during a show," they told MailOnline. "As far as the designers are concerned, the model's job is to make the clothes look fantastic. That's compromised when she starts stumbling down the catwalk like a drunk. If the girl is what the model industry calls a 'new face', it could terminate her career before she's even really got started. Walking is how new faces launch or raise their profile in order to land moneyed jobs like advertising campaigns." There are apparently a few tricks of the trade that models rely on to avoid such disasters. These include requesting bone-crushingly small sizes to make sure their feet are wedged firmly inside the shoes. And some girls have been known to sandpaper the bottoms of the show shoes to give them extra grip on the runway surface.
