And the prize for worst supporting dress goes to . . . Jennifer Lawrence

People Post

Tuesday, January 29, 2013

She is suffering from pneumonia and up against some of Hollywood's top leading ladies, but it was Jennifer Lawrence's dress that almost cost the actress her Screen Actors Guild Award on Sunday. An excited Jennifer, 22, narrowly escaped being completely exposed as her dress came close to tearing in half as she headed on stage to collect her statue for Best Female Actor in a Leading Role. In front of a glittering audience of stars, the beautiful 22-year-old revealed a little too much of her body in a Christian Dior tiered dress. Disaster struck as her name was read out to recognise her role in Silver Linings Playbook. Shooting up from her chair and hugging people around her, the Hunger Games star failed to notice that someone had planted the leg of their chair on her navy Dior gown. Keen to get on stage, the actress attempted to run off, tearing the skirt of her dress at the point where the skirt meets the underskirt with sheer lining. The sheer lining and skirt, which was fresh from the Paris Haute Couture runway, is hidden under the top tier of the gown. As she headed to the stage, Jennifer further exposed herself as she hitched up the dress to negotiate the stairs, revealing her thighs.

Flamboyant failures

With black the prevailing colour on the red carpet at the SAG Awards Sunday tonight, it's fair to say that more than a few of the beauties at the Shrine Auditorium played it safe. But even the kindest hue of the night let down some unlikely characters, including Glee's Jane Lynch, Modern Family's Julie Bowen and the legendary Sigourney Weaver. Jane, 52, attempted to rock it out in a David Meister Signature gown that was sympathetic to her trademark style, but was a little too young for her to comfortably style out... it also seemed to offer the beloved comedienne little support around her cleavage. Bowen, 42, opted for a full-length leather Johanna Johnson gown which wasn't the worst look of the night, but it left her looking drained and again lacked support. But it was the legendary Sigourney Weaver, 63, who suffered the most in her shapeless satin frock. Homeland's Morena Baccarin, 33, needed full marks for trying something different in her flamboyant Basil Soda gown, but it didn't flatter her raven-haired beauty.
