'Hair' it is!

Saturday, February 11, 2012

"Coming to the salon should mean much more than getting a haircut or style. The salon should be a friendly, warm experience that allows customers to feel more like family," Chen-Ore For Beauty owner Orelia Richards explained. This belief perhaps explains why so many of her clients greeted each other like friends upon arrival at the salon to get their beauty needs fulfilled. The Under the Dryer team was present with bartenders from J Wray & Nephew who prepared mixes of their new cocktail — Absolut Lemon Drop Martini — to clients.

Clients: Allison Johnson, Alysia Moulton-White, Danielle Richards, Alleyne Graham, Sophia Carter, Danique Grindley, Alphiah Richards and Jessica Campbell.

Mane attraction

Alphiah Richards, stylist

"Over the years I have changed my look completely once per month," stated Alphiah. She went on to tell the tales of her experiments with colour, length and texture. It was only much recently that she decided to wear her hair long and straight.

Steps:

* Cornrow the hair.

* Sew hair extensions to the hair.

* Cut extensions to your desired style.

* Use a ceramic flat iron to style the hair.

* Finish the look by lightly misting the hair with KeraCare oil sheen with humidity block.

Alphiah's take:

"I love it! I think it is so much more versatile than my natural hair."

Danielle's Curls

Danielle Richards, student

Orelia's little sister Danielle was eager to get her hair styled at Chen-Ore's For Beauty. Danielle has been allowing her sister to style her hair for as long as she can remember and has never had any regrets. It was therefore no surprise that she was completely relaxed while she was being styled.

Danielle was wearing a full head of extensions, so most of the products used during the visit were applied to her natural hair, which is exposed along the hairline.

Steps:

* Apply Precise No-Lye Conditioning Relaxer to the hairline.

* Once the hair is processed, rinse the product from the hair using Precise cleansing neutraliser shampoo.

* Apply Dudley's conditioning hair colour.

* Rinse product from the hair after 15 minutes.

* Cleanse the hair with KeraCare Moisturizing Shampoo.

* Mist the hair with Lottabody setting lotion then spiral-set the hair with soft twist rollers.

* Sit under the dryer for about an hour or until the hair is dry.

* Gently remove the rollers then contour the curls with your fingers.

* Mist the hair with KeraCare oil sheen with humidity block.

Danielle's take:

"I love my hair!"

Matador Red

Alleyne Graham, product manager

"A friend of mine took me here to get my nails done many years ago and I was so pleased with the results I decided to get my hair done at the salon as well. Now I am able to get everything in one place and I love it!" explained Alleyne. She decided to get her nails done and her hair restyled during the visit. Though Alleyne has always kept her hair short, she only added colour to her hair a month ago. It was therefore important that the products selected were ideal for the condition of her hair.

Steps:

* Apply a coat of Affirm Protecto to shield the colour-treated hair from possible damage from the relaxer.

* Process the hair with Affirm Conditioning Relaxer system.

* Rinse the product from the hair with KeraCare neutralising shampoo.

* Apply Dudley's Matador Red conditioning hair colour to the hair.

* After 15-20 minutes have passed, rinse the product from the hair.

* Use a small portion of KeraCare Moisturizing Deep Conditioner in the hair, then rinse.

* Trim the hair using shears.

* Apply KeraCare foam wrap-set lotion to the hair, then flat-wrap the hair.

* Sit under the dryer until the hair is completely dry.

* Mist the hair with Dudley's Total Control Styling Spray.

* Use a curling iron to curl the hair.

* Style the hair using a wide-tooth comb.

* Finish the look by misting the hair with KeraCare oil sheen with humidity block.

Alleyne's take:

"I think it is pretty."

Stylish Bangs

Danique Grindley, human resource administrative assistant and cashier

Danique admits her style is very modest, although, she experiments with colour every now and then when prodded by her stylist Orelia.

Steps:

* Cleanse the hair using KeraCare Moisturizing Shampoo.

* Treat the hair with a small portion of KeraCare Moisturizing Deep Conditioner.

* Rinse the hair then apply KeraCare foam wrap-set lotion.

* Flat-wrap the hair then sit under the dryer until the hair is completely dry.

* Use the bonding method to apply hair extensions to the front of the hair.

* Once the hair glue dries, apply Dudley's Crème Press then curl the hair with a curling iron.

* Use a wide-tooth comb to style the hair.

* Lightly mist the hair with KeraCare oil sheen with humidity block.

Danique’s take:

“It’s fantastic!”

Pixie Perfect

Jessica Campbell, general sales manager

Jessica currently has a naturally bald head which she covers with a wig. The wig she wears was created specifically for her by her stylist of over seven years, Orelia.

Steps:

* Place a wave cap on the head.

* Apply a 28-piece Indian Remy quick weave to the cap in rows, using the bonding method.

* Cut into the desired style.

* Apply Dudley's Creme Press to the hair, then proceed to curl it.

* Finish the look by misting the hair with Dudley's Total Control Styling Spray and KeraCare oil sheen with humidity block.

Jessica's take:

"I love it!"

Corporate Chic

Alysia Moulton-White, assistant manager of group marketing

Alysia popped into the salon before work to get her hair styled. While getting her hair washed, the busy mum explained how she first got introduced to the salon: "My aunt had been visiting the salon for about 10 years and always received excellent results. I remember her recommending this salon while my hairdresser wasn't available to do my hair. I loved it so much I have not been back (to my hairdresser) since."

Steps:

* Shampoo hair using KeraCare Moisturizing Shampoo.

* Rinse, then apply KeraCare foam wrap-set lotion to the hair.

* Use a paddle brush to flat-wrap the hair.

* Sit under the dryer until the hair is completely dry.

* Use a flat iron and Marcel curling iron to style the hair.

* Mist the hair with KeraCare oil sheen with humidity block.

Alysia's take:

"I love it as usual. I sometimes wish I could wrap Orelia up in a box, take it home and open it up every morning before work so she can be there to style my hair daily. Though the style will last for up to four days, it would be nice to keep it this neat all the time."

Purple Power

Allison Johnson, customer service agent

Working directly with customers is an extremely important job. This is so because it is often your appearance and manner that determine how customers will view the business. With this in mind, Allison visits the salon every two weeks to get her hair and nails done. She decided to go for curly hair and purple nails.

Steps:

* Apply barrel curls to the hair using a Marcel curling iron.

* Mist the hair with KeraCare oil sheen with humidity block.

Allison's take:

"I think it is all so fabulous! I feel amazing."

A New Bob

Sophia Carter, advertising manager

Sophia is a huge fan of curly hair and she normally requests curls when she pops in for a visit. However, she decided to give that look a break and style her hair in a sleek bob.

Steps:

* Shampoo hair using KeraCare Moisturizing Shampoo.

* Rinse, then apply KeraCare foam wrap-set lotion to the hair.

* Use a paddle brush to flat-wrap the hair.

* Sit under the dryer until the hair is completely dry.

* Use a ceramic flat iron to style the hair.

* Mist the hair with KeraCare oil sheen with humidity block.

Sophia's take:

"It looks nice!"
