PNP youth must own their contribution to the by-election lossTuesday, November 07, 2017
During the by-election campaign for the St Mary South Eastern seat I noticed that the youth of the People's National Party (PNP) went down a very dangerous road.
First, Damion Crawford started spewing personal attacks on social media and on the political platform against Prime Minister Andrew Holness and the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) candidate Dr Norman Dunn. The PNP youth arms then followed suit with the same type of personal broadside against Holness and Dunn.
It is sad that the youth of the PNP choose to engage in negative politicking, instead of providing new and innovative solutions. It is reminiscent of the mistake that the JLP youth arm once made when they launched a personal campaign against Portia Simpson Miller, who was immensely popular at the time. It appears that G2K has matured a lot since then, having learned from its past experiences. From the outside it appears the group has left negative politics behind and taken up the mantle of bringing technical solutions to the table.
The PNP youth have some catching up to do, but it won't happen if they are not forced to own their contribution to the loss in the by-election in St Mary South Eastern.
