Dear Editor,

This is an open letter to the Minister of Labour and Social Security Shahine Robinson.

Dear Minister Robinson,

In keeping with the spirit of lessening Government bureaucracy, and also recognising how that affects the subject of 'World Elder Abuse Awareness Day', I, as an elder, would like you to amend items IV and V on page 5 of the 'Old Age Pension Forms' in order to allow a resident of Jamaica who is meant to benefit directly from the proceeds of NIS pension sums from a donor pensioner now living abroad to do so without hindrance.

The suggestion that the donor pensioner residing abroad has to open a local bank account rather than use that of the local beneficiary is, at best, onerous and one very poorly thought out.

We, the local beneficiaries, are asking that this be so amended, as it will and has caused hardship in accessing these gifts from our families/friends abroad. This can be easily done in the form of a ministerial directive. Thank you.

Anthony Goffe
