Establish crash spot zones

Thursday, August 16, 2018

Dear Editor,

The Transport Operators Development Sustainable Services (TODSS) is calling on the Government to consider the creation and official establishment of crash spot zones across the island, including an educational campaign to help reduce fatal crashes.

The recent fatal crash on the Spur Tree main road in Manchester which claimed the life of a retired cop brings to greater light the need to create more hazard effects in crash zones across the island with signs and lights.

With over 215 fatalities on our roads since the start of the year, something needs to be done to reduce accidents in our frequent crash areas.

Our survey has shown that motorists are not listening to newscasts, but instead music, while driving, so we have to create the zones and increase the environmental effects that will reduce the crashes.

We have to try everything in and outside the box at this time as our drivers are not listening; let's see if they are also not looking.

The TODSS's 30-day Road Safety Summer Ramp It Up campaign continues until August 30,2018, through which motorists are urged to toot their horns and keep their lights on to promote safety.
