Dear Editor,

On Wednesday July 4, 2018 a very interesting article, written by Racquel Porter, titled 'Call made for church to welcome homosexuals, sex workers and transgenders', came out in the Jamaica Observer.

I welcome that call too.

What did Jesus say? “I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.” (St Luke 5: 32)

The Church is like a hospital; it's a place of rescue for the perishing, and a place of care for the dying, as that well-loved hymn says. We can all go for healing and cleansing, help, counselling, and fellowship.

However, I must say that those who are locked in unnatural relationships, such as gays and lesbians, if they go to church, and the church welcomes them into the fold, after they are healed and cleansed from their unnatural practices they should not recommit those sins again. If they don't turn, then the church should not welcome them.

Nevertheless, we are all guilty sinners saved by God's mercy and enabling grace.

Donald J McKoy
