Letters to the Editor
Saluting Motty Perkins
Monday, February 13, 2012
Dear Editor,
I too wish to join members of the media fraternity and all my fellow Jamaicans both at home and in the diaspora to register my shock and disbelief at the passing of one of our most beloved journalists, Wilmot "Motty" Perkins.
Motty, who was very popular among many Jamaicans, was a man of great intellect and had a sharp wit. He was truly a classic gentleman, yet at the same time he never lost the common touch that made him so well loved by many ordinary Jamaicans. Even though there was talk that some among the middle class were not always his greatest supporters - especially when they were on the receiving end of his criticisms - no one can deny that his insistence on always standing up for the rights of Jamaicans was what made him such a giant and a defining symbol of what a true Jamaican talk show host should be.
I was very much a fan of his most recent radio programme Perkins On Line on Power 106 FM. Daytime talk show radio will never be the same without him. We salute you, Motty Perkins, and may your soul rest in peace.
