Motty truly loved Jamaica
Tuesday, February 14, 2012
Dear Editor,
Wilmot Perkins was 100 per cent a true Jamaican. He was one of few Jamaicans who really love this country. And I am not speaking about someone who would beat his chest and say, "I am a Jamaican who love my country", and who would shortly after that turn around and throw litter of some sort on the pavement, or toss it out of a moving car.
I am not speaking of any politician who would promise the people many things and who profess to love the poor, yet ignore the people and promises when they get into power, only seeing for themselves, friends and others.
I am talking about a man who I place in the same category as Marcus Garvey, Sam Sharpe, Paul Bogle, Nanny of the Maroons, Bob Marley, Michael Manley, Edward Seaga, Desmond McKenzie, George William Gordon, Professor Rex Nettleford, Delroy Chuck, Carolyn Gomes, Ronald Thwaites, Lisa Hanna, Usain Bolt and Asafa Powell. These are some of the people who I believe really love - and loved - Jamaica
Mr Perkins wished from the bottom of his heart that Jamaica would develop its true potential and take its place as one of the great countries of this world. My sincerest condolences to his wife and family. Motty, I hope and pray your soul rests in peace.
