Handling of Digicel/Claro deal shameful

Dear Editor,
The recent announcement that Digicel and Claro can merge could be very good news for the Jamaican mobile phone user.
However, the way the news came to the public again demonstrates how little trust can be placed in the ‘JLPNP’ officials to be open, honest and forthright with the people. The disclosure that the Digicel/Claro merger was agreed by the ‘JLPNP’ is little comfort to the thousands of customers and dealers who were under the impression that their rights were being protected.
The NDM also criticises the manner in which then PM Andrew Holness reversed the decision made by the administration of former PM Bruce Golding regarding Digicel’s handling of Claro’s network. The NDM finds it shameful that the country was kept in the dark and was only told of Mr Holness’s decision, made in consultation with the PNP’s Phillip Paulwell. The NDM views this as running counter to Mr Holness’s talk of transparent government.
What the Government needs to do now in the interest of the people is not allow Digicel nor Lime to frustrate new investors.
New technology is now being tested in North America, Europe and Asia, and in a favourable investment climate Jamaica would benefit as it is well known that “Jamaicans love to talk”.
In a very short time the present mobile providers will be forced by competition to lower prices.

To force Company merging/taking over another to maintain separate accounts; switch-gear, handsets, brand and personnel is a joke of epic proportions.
Another, mishandling by Mr. Golding leading to badly handled correction by Drew (with the acquiescence of the Comrades).
That said I shed zero tears for LIME. They held the handle for over a century and one gets the impression that the entity is a poorly managed, behemoth that is just waiting for a grave to fall in.

I dont want to accuse any one of bribery but it look like when the jamaican officials saw digicel them get drunk them tun idiot a tell them fe tek any type of licence them want/sell we out.diehard customers and monopoly dont reduce prices and improve service in a market economy.no body (including the richest man in the world claaro) will be able to compete with digicel with the present regulation. i guess digicel wont mind lime leaving
