Condolence to Moses Emmanuel Henriques' family
Thursday, February 16, 2012
Dear Editor,
I wish to extend sincere condolence to the family of Moses Emmanuel Henriques, leader of the Marcus Garvey Political Party (MGPP), who died recently.
The MGPP is the oldest political party on record in the island, having been founded by National Hero Marcus Mosiah Garvey September 1929.
It is of interest to note that it is being proposed that Garvey's philosophy and teachings be taught in schools.
I trust that a new, vibrant and popular leader will emerge to make the party viable and popular, that by the time of the next general election, constitutionally due 2015, the party will increase its slate of candidates significantly. The Jamaican diaspora should support the party financially as I do not see state funding of political parties becoming a reality in the near future, taking into consideration the state of Jamaica's economy.
It was in Central America, the USA and England that Garveyism became popular and a force to be reckoned with. Truly, "A prophet is without honour in his own country".
