Chris Burns wrote a very good article, "Good move to reintroduce civics in school" on February 6. I too salute the new Minister of Education Ronnie Thwaites that civics will be reintroduced in schools, starting September.

Even more than that, included in the initiative is the teaching of Garveyism, which is even more important now as we embark on our 50th anniversary celebrations. Both initiatives will fill a major void in our young people's education and equip them with the strong sense of nationalism prevalent in many countries throughout the world.

In fairness, Mr Burns should have given credit where credit is due. In fact, it was the former Minister of Education Andrew Holness and his administration that issued the necessary directives for civics, inclusive of Garveyism, to be integrated into the school curriculum. For that we must give Mr Holness and the previous JLP government hearty commendations for doing what was needed.
