Letters to the Editor

Cancel appointment of Sally Porteous

Thursday, February 02, 2012

Dear Editor,

I write to express my view relating to the appointment of the Custos of Manchester. Let us not be over-hypocritical but simply be ready to call things as it happens. To thine own self be true so that you cannot be false to anyone. When Mr Steadman Fuller was appointed Custos of Kingston he was not a justice of the peace prior to becoming custos. In addition, Custos Fuller was not appointed over someone who was acting, hence he was well received by all the justices of the peace of Kingston.

Are people saying that Kingston justices of the peace are more civilised than Manchester people? God forbid! Let the chips fall where they may. Cancel the appointment of Ms Sally Porteous, bearing in mind that a minister, and in this case the minister of justice, cannot be sued provided that he manifestly acted within the capacity and jurisdiction of his ministerial expectation.

There are two sides to a story.

There are too many instances where people who have served with distinction are denied promotion. Who in the name of God would not like to be deservingly rewarded for a job well done? Mr Editor, Ms Sally Porteous "expressed resemblance" brings back memory of our colonial master's rule.

Don't let no ghost fool you, that is the root of the matter.

Glen V Bromfield JP

My distant relative (without calling names, related not by blood, but by family) ......I am ashamed of Mr. Bloomfield for such racist sentiments.

Get over it, length of service, popularity and political affiliation are not a criteria for promotion, Promotion should be based on performance. Where, were you when she was unfairly appointed, that was the time you should have made your objection. With you now calling for the cancelling of the Sally Portions’ appointment, what you are doing is overestimate your importance. YOU should be spending your time trying to change the tribal system, rather than wanting a tit for tat response in a tribal corrupt political system that is now existing.

So Glen your Coded Message..with the sad expression of "expressed resemblance" is most unfortunate...ever heard of out of many one.??...I know you can do better..However thankfully we live in a country with a free press.(sometimes) and we can say anything...except hopefully..not shouting FIRE in a crowded Theatre.

Bwoy Jamaica has become one racist country ...... and that is a bad thing. I suspect that we have been importing the worst attitudes of African Americans since the 1960s - and that is poison. We are historically bigger than that. We need to get over this and realize that we are One People out of Many.

Assassination by anonymous e-mail is awful!
