Cop detains man seen fleeing with gun after shooting

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Quick action by a police officer resulted in the seizure of a firearm and the detention of one man, following a shooting death on Henderson Avenue, Kingston 11 yesterday.

The dead man has not yet been identified.

The police this evening reported that explosions were heard coming from a motor vehicle that was travelling along Henderson Avenue about 7:45 pm. The vehicle subsequently crashed into a utility pole.

Shortly after, a man was reportedly seen exiting the vehicle with a firearm in his hand. It is further reported that he attempted to flee the scene when he was accosted by a police officer.

He was held and a Browning pistol, with a magazine containing two rounds of ammunition taken from him.

Both injured males were taken to hospital where the unidentified male was pronounced dead and the other admitted under police guard.

Lawmen are appealing to anyone with additional information that could assist their investigations to contact the Olympic Gardens police at 923-5468, Crime Stop at 311, police 119 emergency number, using the Stay Alert App or the contacting the nearest police station.
