UPDATE: Police urge students to travel with caution in August Town

KINGSTON, Jamaica – The police are urging students to “travel with caution” in August Town, St Andrew following a flare up of violence in the community this morning

The area is close to the University of the West Indies (UWI) and the University of Technology, Jamaica (UTech).

“We remind students to travel with caution today and avoid the affected areas,” the Jamaica Constabulary Force said in a tweet via social media today.

It was reported that one person was killed and an unconfirmed number injured during a shootout early this morning in the community.

There is now heavy police presence in the community as at least 10 police vehicles to include an armoured truck were dispatched to the area.
