ST JAMES, Jamaica — Two Canadian women, who were held with cocaine at the Sangster International Airport last year, were fined $2.5 million and sentenced to three years in prison when they appeared in the St James Parish Court.

Mariah Holland, a 22-year-old bartender and 23-year-old Jaques-Francoise Moukoury, an enquiry officer, both of Toronto, Canada, were reportedly found with several quart bottles of cocaine while attempting to board a flight to Canada on August 31, 2016.

Holland was found in possession of three quart bottles with cocaine weighing six pounds with an estimated street value of $3.4 million; while Moukoury was found in possession of three quart bottles with cocaine weighing four pounds with an estimated street value of $2.2 million, the police said in a release today.

They were both fined $1 million on the charge of possession of cocaine and $1.5 million for attempting to export cocaine. If unable to pay, they will serve nine months in prison on each charge, which will run consecutively to the mandatory three-year prison term.
