KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Union of Clerical Administrative & Supervisory Employees (UCASE) this afternoon called on Prime Minister Andrew Holness to intervene and have the Jamaica Public Service (JPS) rescind its “cruel” decision to remove certain benefits enjoyed by pensioners.

In a letter to the PM this afternoon, UCASE said that JPS has taken away from pensioners the electricity discount they have been enjoying for over 50 years.

According to the union, normal operations at the JPS cannot be guaranteed if this decision is not rescinded by August 22.

“We would be indeed surprised if the Jamaica Public Service Company Limited's board and specifically members appointed by your government (two members), would properly sanction this cowardly act, which in our view bears minimal financial returns,” UCASE stated in its letter to Holness.
