KINGSTON, Jamaica — OBSERVER ONLINE has been reliably informed that Robert Pickersgill is to step down as Chairman of the People's National Party (PNP).

Pickersgill, who has been dubbed "Chairman For Life,” has served in the post for the past 25 years. He is also the member of Parliament for St Catherine North Western.

According to a well-placed source in the party, he advised the party's executive today that he will not be seeking re-election to the post of chairman.

The PNP, in a Twitter post a short while ago, thanked Pickersgill for his years of service.

"We are grateful to Cde Bobby Pickersgill for 25 years of service, commitment + leadership as Chairman. Love, Your PNP Family! #NuffRespect," the party tweeted.

More information later.
