KINGSTON, Jamaica — Over 200 pounds of marijuana was seized by the police at the Port of Kingston last week Thursday.

According to the Jamaica Customs Agency (JCA) the officers seized a shipment consisting of 60 rectangular packages of marijuana weighing 222.8 pounds concealed in an export container.

The drug has an estimated street value of approximately J$1 million, the police said.

The JCA said that a team was alerted to a shipping container with a discrepancy and further examination led to the discovery of three bags concealed in the container. When checked, the bags were found to contain the packages with vegetable matter which was tested as marijuana.

The matter is currently being investigated by the Border Protection Division of the JCA and the Jamaica Constabulary Force's Narcotics Division.

No arrest has been made in connection with the seizure.
