KINGSTON, Jamaica — Director of communications and public affairs in the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), Robert Nesta Morgan, says he has applied to run in the Clarendon North Central constituency currently held by Pearnel Charles Snr when it becomes vacant.

Morgan made the announcement on social media site Facebook, saying that it had been a long time dream to represent his constituency.

Morgan's full post said: “For those wondering, I have applied to the JLP to be the representative for North Central Clarendon as soon as there is a vacancy pursuant to the rules and regulations of the Jamaica Labour Party. It has been a lifelong dream to represent my community. Nothing will deter me from that dream.”

The constituency is held by veteran parliamentarian Pearnel Charles Snr, with many believing that his son, and Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Pearnel Charles Jnr will seek to succeed him.

The 81-year-old elder Charles has indicated that he will be serving out his term, but does not intend to seek re-election.
