KINGSTON, Jamaica — A fifth named storm has formed over the Atlantic, but it does not pose a threat to Jamaica.

The Meteorological Service of Jamaica says Sub-Tropical Storm Ernesto had maximum sustained winds remain near 65 km/h with higher gusts and some strengthening is possible during the next 24 hours.

At 5:00 pm, it was located near Latitude 39.0 degrees north and Longitude 45.7 degrees west or about 1045 km southeast of Cape Race Newfoundland and is moving toward the north near 15 km/h.

A turn toward the north-northeast is forecast tonight, and a faster northeastward motion is expected by late Thursday and should continue through early Saturday.

Met Service said the system is expected to become a post- tropical cyclone Thursday night or early Friday, and merge with a frontal zone near Ireland and the United Kingdom on Saturday.
