KINGSTON, Jamaica — The National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) says it has received $120 million from Government to effect repairs on approximately 30 garbage compactor trucks.

With assistance from the equipment management department at the National Works Agency (NWA) the NSWMA said work has commenced in preparing the estimates with the intention of starting work on the units by the end of January with a possible completion date of March.

Executive Director of the NSWMA Audley Gordon assured the public that “the funds received will be utilised in the most cost effective manner to ensure that taxpayers get maximum value for every dollar spent”.

He added that “each of the four regions will receive allotted number of repaired units and this will significantly assist with the collection and disposal of solid waste in a timely manner from communities island-wide”.
