MANCHESTER, Jamaica — Keisha Forbes, the woman at the centre of the alleged overseas employment scam in Christiana, was today offered bail in the sum of $200,000 when she appeared in the Manchester Parish Court.

She is reportedly answering to charges of obtaining money by false pretence and conspiracy to defraud.

The allegations are that Forbes, 38, collected down payments from a number of applicants to an overseas employment programme to Canada and the United States.

The part payment for those scheduled to go to Canada was reportedly $60,000 while those heading to the United States were required to pay $75,000; with the understanding that the remaining sum would be paid when they reach their respective jobs.

When the applicants were scheduled to leave last month, they could not get in touch with Forbes and the office that was located in Christiana town was no longer in operation. The matter was subsequently reported to the police.

More information later.
