ST CATHERINE, Jamaica — Knox Community College will defend their overall title at today's fourth staging of the Council of Community College of Jamaica's (CCCJ) track and field and cheerleading championships held GC Foster Sports College in Angels, St Catherine, starting at 10:00am.

Nine institutions are down to take part in the one day event that has grown in its short history, and another good day of competition is anticipated according to meet director Aldene Crewe.

“We were forced to move from the Montego Bay Sports Complex where we staged the first three events because of the state of the running surface but that notwithstanding we are anticipating another good day of track and field at GC Foster,” Crew said.

“Last year we saw 16 records being broken and we hope to get at least the same number this time.”

The teams set to take part today are, Browns Town Community College, Bethlehem Moravian College, College of Agriculture Science and Education (CASE), Excelsior Community College (Exed), Knox Community College, Moneague College, Montego Bay Community College, Portmore Community College and Trench Town Polytechnic College.

Only six schools took part last year but the event lived up to expectations with some outstanding performances led by Knox CC's Delano Bailey and Jovan Smith who broke two records each while the CASE pair of Safiya Clennon and Anniesha Walker both won three individual events each.

Knox scored 285.5 points to take the overall title, ahead of outgoing two-time champions Exed -- 213, Montego Bay CC were third with 200.5, followed by CASE -- 166, Browns Town -- 154 and new comers Trench Town CC -- 16 points.
