JLP's Derrick Smith to resign

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Member of Parliament for St Andrew North Western Derrick Smith is to resign.

Smith, who has been the MP for 29 years, told members of the constituency's executive as well as councillors at a meeting held at Pembrook Hall Primary School last evening that he intends to inform the Speaker of the House and Prime Minister Andrew Holness shortly.

Smith is also leader of government business in the Lower House.

The former security minister, who has been a parliamentarian for 38 years, has been ailing for some time now.
