KINGSTON, Jamaica — Director of Cari-Med Howard Mitchell was yesterday re-elected as president of the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ) for a second term.

In accepting his re-election to the top post, Mitchell thanked council members for the vote of confidence in his ability to lead the organisation, PSOJ said in a statement.

Mitchell was given the vote of confidence during a meeting held at the PSOJ's offices on Hope Road. He expressed confidence in his executive team and with it plans to continue to lobby for the interests of the private sector and on issues impacting Jamaica as a whole.

Mitchell said that he plans “to continue to take a collaborative and inclusive approach to stimulate action and effect change on issues of national importance and impact.”

He also expressed his ongoing concern with the current crime situation and said, “The urgent and immediate task will be to reignite dialogue towards the development of a unified nationally, acceptable policy on crime prevention, citizen security and economic growth.”

Returning to join Mitchell on the executive are vice presidents: Dennis Cohen, Deputy Group Managing Director of NCB and Frank James, Group Chief Financial Officer at GraceKennedy Limited Vikram Dhiman, Chief Operating Officer of the ICD Group will remain in the position of honorary treasurer. Keith Duncan, Group Chief Executive Officer of JMMB Group was elected to the position of Vice President, replacing Gary 'Butch' Hendrickson, Chief Executive Officer of Continental Baking Company Limited who has retired from the PSOJ Executive, the statement continued.

The PSOJ said the honorary secretary is to be appointed by the executive committee at their first meeting in 2019.

Elected to the executive committee were seven associations: Jamaica Bankers Association (JBA), Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association (JHTA), Business Process Industry Association of Jamaica (BPIAJ), Insurance Association of Jamaica (IAJ) Jamaica Securities Dealers Association (JSDA), Shipping Association of Jamaica (SAJ) and the MSME Alliance.

The executive committee comprises the president, three vice presidents, CEO, honorary secretary, honorary treasurer and seven association members.

The PSOJ is governed by a 50-member council which is elected by the general membership to serve for a two year period. As the governing body, the council sets the organisation's policies and elects each year from amongst its members the executive committee.
