SANTA CRUZ, St Elizabeth — Everton Fisher, councillor designate of the Balaclava Division, has been selected as the new mayor of Black River and chairman of the new People’s National Party (PNP) controlled St Elizabeth Parish Council.

He is to be sworn in today.

PNP sources say Fisher’s deputy will be Mordant Mitchell of the Black River Division.

The PNP commands a 9-6 parish council majority in St Elizabeth following Monday’s local government election.

The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) had controlled the previous council with Jeremy Palmer (Pedro Plains Division) as mayor of Black River and chairman of the council.
