KINGSTON, Jamaica — More nonstop flights from Germany to Jamaica have been announced by Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett from the German capital city of Berlin where he is meeting this weekend with leaders across its travel industry including the world's largest tour operator, TUI.

“A mere five months after launching scheduled nonstop twice weekly flights between the major German city of Cologne and Montego Bay, German airline, Eurowings, has committed to a once weekly scheduled flight from Munich to Montego Bay beginning July 2018 using a Airbus 330 aircraft seating a total of 310 passengers,” Bartlett said.

The flights come in addition to German airline, Condor, which now operates twice weekly flights non-stop flights between Frankfurt, Germany to Montego Bay and a direct flight once per week between Munich to Montego Bay.

Senior Advisor and Strategist Delano Seiveright pointed out that between January 1 and September 30 of this year, Jamaica has welcomed over 20,000 German tourists, 42 per cent more than last year putting the island on track to either meeting or exceeding Bartlett's target of 50,000 German tourists visiting Jamaica per year by 2020.

Bartlett's visit to Germany comes as the country's name and symbols including the widespread use of the Jamaican flag and Rastafari colours dominate media publications as part of post coverage of a general election recently held there.
