3 shot dead during confrontation with police in St James

ST JAMES, Jamaica — Three men were shot dead in Salt Springs, St James during an alleged police confrontation this morning.

Dead are Omar Sawyers and Christopher Thorpe, both of the inner-city community.

The third man has not yet been identified, however, according to police reports the alleged gunmen reportedly opened fire on a team from the Mobile Reserve, who were conducting an operation in the community at about 6:00 am.

The gunfire was reportedly returned by the police team and the three men were later found suffering from gunshot wounds.

They were taken to the Cornwall Regional Hospital in Mount Salem, where they were pronounced dead.
