KINGSTON, Jamaica — A young man has been taken into custody and charged with illegal possession of a firearm following the seizure of a Glock 22 pistol and thirty-two .40 cartridges on St John's Lane in Kingston today.

He has been identified as 20-year-old Omally Christobell, otherwise called 'Mali' from the area.

Reports from police are that a team from the Proactive Investigations Unit (PIU) was conducting patrol in the area about 12:45 pm when they saw Christobell acting in a manner that aroused their suspicions.

The officers said he attempted to elude them but was held and searched and the firearm, loaded with thirteen cartridges, taken from his waistband.

Christobell's home was also searched afterwards and an additional 19 rounds of ammunition found inside a bedside table, according to the police.

He is to appear before the Gun Court in downtown Kingston on Friday.
