KINGSTON, Jamaica - Opposition spokesman on Tourism, Edmund Bartlett, says that the people of Jamaica will accept nothing less than a clear-cut and accurate account from tourism minister Dr Wykeham McNeil regarding marketing strategies and plans that will be instituted after London 2012,
McNeil is scheduled to conduct a press conference later today regarding the issue.
Bartlett, accusing government members of having a ‘grand party’ in London, raised concerns about the lack of a discernable marketing strategy in the aftermath of the London 2012 Olympics.
According to Bartlett, huge amounts of money were expended in what are very challenging times for most Jamaicans. He added that the UK was the weakest of the island’s major markets, the others being the US and Canada, and that Jamaica may very well have missed a huge opportunity to capitalise on the London 2012 bonanza.
Bartlett also pointed out that the Jamaica Tourist Board and JAMPRO spent in the region of $150 million on London 2012 activities none of which was expended on athletes or media exposure.
