IT'S all systems go for tonight's coronation of the Moon Palace Jamaica Grande Miss Universe Jamaica North-East pageant.

The event takes place at the Moon Palace Jamaica Grande Resort in Ocho Rios, St Ann.

Franchise holder Shelle Parchment-Tweedie said plans are in place for an entertaining evening.

“It will be all about embracing our culture and we will showcase different genres of our music throughout the proceedings,” Parchment-Tweedie told the Jamaica Observer.

Fourteen finalists recruited from parishes including St Ann, Portland, St Thomas and Trelawny will vie for the title of Miss Universe Jamaica North-East 2017 and an automatic placement in the 2017 Miss Universe Jamaica national pageant.

Since they were sashed and presented to the public for the first time on May 12, the finalists have shown a lot of growth.

“The ladies are more confident now in how they represent themselves on stage and how they interact with the public. They are also more aware to what's happening in Jamaica and around the world,” said Parchment-Tweedie.

The finalists, whose ages range between 18 and 27 years, include an entertainment coordinator, customer service representative, college and university students.

“Putting together a pageant of this nature is sometimes tedious but it is something that we enjoy doing. This year is going to be an excellent year because we also went all-out to the crevices and corners across the region to find the best girls. We are very proud to say that we have a good set of girls this year,” Ricardo Foreman, a member of the pageant's organising team, explained.

This is the fourth year of the pageant. They have secured top-10 and top-five placements in the Miss Universe Jamaica pageant.

“This event is an opportunity to showcase the beauty and grace that exists in north-eastern Jamaica. We have been lucky to maintain key relationships, especially within the north-east belt that have ensured our success over the last four years. We encourage more partnerships as the event is not one that just highlights the ladies, but also our local stakeholders as well.”

This year, the pageant has partnered with the Busy Signal 2020 Helping Hands Foundation to assist the St Ann's Bay Hospital. Busy Signal is also expected to perform at tonight's coronation show.

Tonight's 14 finalists are: Errol-Dene Kelly, Miss Ro Net Printing; Sashell Stephenson — Miss Moon Palace Jamaica Grande; Joddian Harper - Miss Eco Power; Renae Smith — Miss STJ Production; Alecia Harvey — Miss Usain Bolt Tracks and Records Ocho Rios; Tanisha Senior — Miss Jamaica Secure Solutions; Ciara Evans, Miss White Line Car Wash; Joana Durrant, Miss Mongoose Restaurant; Italee Vernard, Miss Elite Kreations; Jessica Vernon, Miss Khrishantii Swimwear; Nekoda Diedrick, Miss Diamonds Forever; Kemille Miller, Miss Starlight Production; Camelia Gayle, Miss Pineapple Court Hotel; and Jasmine Chung, Miss Artistic Communications Group.
