EDM act Major Lazer, which comprises two Caribbean nationals — Walshy Fire (from Jamaica) and Jillionaire (from Trinidad) — organised a relief concert in Miami on Monday to raise funds for Caribbean countries affected by recent hurricanes.

The concert, Relief is the Mission, featured performances from Tarrus Riley, Konshens, and Machel Montano as well as Tory Lanez, Happy Colours, Ricky Remedy, and Puerto Rico's Bad Bunny, among others.

The Jamaica Observer caught up with Riley, who spoke about his involvement in the concert.

“When I was approached to be a part of proceedings, my reaction was, yes, I'm ready. The reason is necessary and as humans, we should be mindful and ready to help others in their time of need. It could happen to any of us at any time,” said Riley.

Riley, who has a strong fan base across the Caribbean, has worked with Major Lazer in the past, having scored a Billboard Hot 100 hit with the EDM act on Powerful, which features British pop singer Ellie Goulding.

“I've had great support from the Caribbean over the years, so giving back to them was a no-brainer,” Riley added.

All proceeds from the more than 4,000 tickets sold as well as funds raised through Major Lazer's Facebook page, will go towards Caribbean relief funds.
