US-based singer Schen is giving a nod to independent women in her upcoming release Get Vex Money on the Abscott Entertainment label on April 4.

“We will be also be simultaneously releasing the video for Get Vex Money in April. The video has a great urban hip-hop vibe. It's going to be epic,” the 26-year-old told the Jamaica Observer.

Currently signed to Abscott Entertainment, she has been locked in the studio, fine-tuning her debut EP.

“The EP will be a mixture of pop, reggae and dancehall songs,” she said.

Schen recently wowed an audience during an Own the Mic showcase in Yonkers, New York.

She performed Ready and Devil Juice.

“I gave it my all and went for it with my songs, and the crowd loved it. But I know in myself that I still have a lot of work to do to get to that next level,” said Schen, whose given name is Shenequewa Absolom.

The daughter of parents who hail from Barrett Town in St James. Schen was born in the Bronx, then grew up in Queens where she attended Benjamin N Cardozo High.
