THE celebration for the life of theatre personality Aston Cooke is scheduled for Wolmer's auditorium at Wolmer's Boys' School in Kingston on Saturday, March 30, 2018.

Start time is slated for 10:00 am.

Cooke's send-off was confirmed by playwright/director/producer/actor David Tulloch.

“There'll be a book signing from March 25 to 29 between 12 noon and 4:00 pm at the Louise Bennett Garden Theatre in Kingston. The wake is planned for the same venue on March 29 at 8:00 pm,” Tulloch told the Jamaica Observer.

Cooke — a playwright/director/producer/actor — was found dead in his St Andrew home on February 22. He is believed to have been in his late 50s.

Cooke's works include Single Entry, Country Duppy, Internal Affairs, and Concubine. A co-franchise holder of the Miss Jamaica World pageant, he had nine national Actor Boy Awards to his credit.

A former chairman of the Commissioners of the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission, he formed the Jamaica Youth Theatre in 2004.

The planning committee of Powerful Women & Men Perform for Charity show hailed Cooke for his professionalism.

“Aston brought a high level of theatrical professionalism to the show and an outstanding quality of drama, for which he was known. He used popular dancehall culture to take some of the island's respected, powerful women and men out of their comfort zone to perform for the audience,” said Cordell Green, chairman of the planning committee of Powerful Women & Men Perform for Charity show.

“We will miss Aston Cooke's presence at our shows and his postings on social media, in his commitment to promote the event to benefit hundreds of abandoned children and persons affected by HIV/AIDS in the care of the Mustard Seed Communities,” Green added.
