Suncity competition finals next Saturday
After 10 weeks of intense musical battles, the grand finals of the Suncity High School Disc Jock competition is scheduled to take place at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre in St Andrew, next Saturday, March 25. Showtime is 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm.
Tanto Blacks, Devin Di Dakta, Tifa and former Magnum contestant Shac are among those scheduled to perform.
Representatives from three high schools will battle for first place, bragging rights and a multitude of prizes from various sponsors.
“This is our second year of doing this competition and the finals promise to be intense and entertaining. It will be an evening filled with excitement and lots of prizes and surprises for patrons. We urge everyone to come out early and enjoy the proceedings,” said Steve Billings, chairman of Suncity 104.9 FM.
The Suncity High School Disc Jock competition seeks to identify the top high school jocks, who aspire for a career in music.
Jonathan Grant High School’s DJ Malik and Papine High’s DJ Matalon have advanced to the finals. The wild card play-off between Campion High and St George’s College took place yesterday.
With weekly executions at four high schools, the Suncity High School Disc Jock competition has been making waves especially on social media with fans of each competing high schools voting online.
At the grand finals, a female DJ showdown between Holy Childhood High and St Hugh’s High will take place before the male DJ battle. LASCO Curves is the sponsor of the female showdown segment.
Student disc jocks are competing for prizes including Smarter Cards from the Jamaica Urban Transit Company, phone credit, and cellphones courtesy of Digicel; baskets and trophies from LASCO Icool, Suncity Radio, laptop bags and headphones; and laptops and tablets.
The Suncity High School Disc Jock competition is endorsed by the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sports, and the Ministry of Education and Youth.
