Raising funds for El-Rich

COME tomorrow night, The Rollington Town Primary School in the Corporate Area is expected to come alive with the sounds of music — music that is hoped will spur Jamaicans to give to a worthy cause.

The event, a fund-raising concert, is being organised to to assist up-and-coming deejay, El-Rich, with the recovery efforts of the former Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall contestant.

On October 17 last year, the deejay, who was born Richard Armstrong, suffered a spinal cord injury during a community football match. This has left him incapacitated and with very limited sensation from his neck down.

Since his accident, he has been hospitalised and has undergone three surgeries, the most recent was to insert a breathing apparatus, as one of his lungs had collapsed.

Speaking to Splash, a confident El-Rich expressed hope that he will make a full recovery.

"I am feeling much better as the days go by, thanks to all my family and friends [who] keep me uplifted each and everyday. I know I have 100 per cent chance of walking again because I believe in God and I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me," he notes.

He, however, became emotional when discussing the fundraiser.

"It brings tears to my eye just to know that there are still good people left in this world. To know that in my time of need my friends could take the time out and do this for me I am very happy and I thank them."

Saturday's concert will feature a slew of Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall alumnae including Juggla, Rass Fraser, Stinga Blings, Jah Mikes, Tidal, Stein, Shenko and Tanto Blacks. Also on the bill is Flex Squad and comedian Rohan Gunter, one of the chief organisers of the event.
