Local artistes still mourn Whitney Houston
Saturday, February 18, 2012
THE funeral for pop icon Whitney Houston is set for today at a private invitation-only service at Newark's New Hope Baptist Church.
The superstar was found dead on at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on the eve of the Grammy Award last Saturday. She was 48.
Local artistes, however, are still trying to come to terms with her sudden departure.
Reggae singer Gyptian said it was a tremendous loss for the entertainment fraternity.
"Whitney Houston is a legend. I offer my condolences to her family and to her fans in Jamaica and all over the world. This is a big loss," he said.
Entertainer G Whizz said he grew up listening to the amazing range of the songstress.
"Her music will live on forever," he said.
Reggae artiste Alaine said Houston had a huge impact on her life.
"I wanted to sing like Whitney Houston. She touched so many lives and certainly touched mine. My heart goes out to her family at this difficult time," she said.
"Whitney was an incredible artiste and one that inspired me. Her voice became the standard by which many great females singers are compared and her soulfulness is yet to be duplicated," said Cherine.
"It's hard to believe she is gone so soon and so young but I believe her music definitely will live on for generations to come."
